Robert remained silent for a moment and looked at the thin file on Patricia’s desk.
A five-year-old child in expensive clothes, without an identifiable name and with a mother who had seemingly disappeared without any official trace – nothing about it seemed like a classic case of abandonment.
It felt more like fear. “May I speak to her?” he asked.
Patricia hesitated briefly and then nodded.
When Robert entered the small playroom, Lily was sitting in a corner clutching her backpack.

“Lily,” Robert said calmly, “why do you keep running away?”
Her lips trembled. “Because my father is looking for me.”
Robert felt his chest tighten. “Do you remember his name?”
She slowly opened her backpack and took out a damaged silver medallion.
Inside was a faded photograph of a woman with the same blue eyes as Lily, next to a man whose face had been deliberately scratched out.
Behind the picture, in small handwriting, were two words: Mitchell Tower. Robert went cold.
